I am pleased to invite you to join us for two days of training, discussion, and networking at the 27th EMWA Conference to be held between 20th and 22nd November 2008 in London, UK.

This conference will provide members with opportunities to continue their training in the EMWA professional development programme. The workshop programme covers a wide range of medical writing subjects, including essential fundamentals for new writers and advanced workshops for experienced writers looking to keep their knowledge up-to-date or refresh their skills. In addition, we have a new seminar on offer providing training in Good Clinical Practice tailored specifically for medical writers. There will also be a Freelance Forum on Friday evening, which is a great opportunity for freelancers to share experience and learn from each other.

London was chosen for this meeting for its ease of accessibility, dynamism and cultural diversity, and range of good hotel options. These features make it a convenient location for a 1- to 2-day meeting that can easily be slipped into a busy medical writer’s schedule. So take a look at the programme on offer and sign up quickly because space is limited and the demand promises again to be large.

Members can now register online. If you are already a member you can logon to the members area of website and follow the instructions on the members version of this page which is linked to from the 'Upcoming conference' link to the right of the logout button. If you are not yet a member and would like to take advantage of this new online facility, please follow the ‘Become a member’ link on the homepage.  A username and password for the EMWA members' database will be issued by Head Office once payment has been received.

Non members can register by downloading the conference registration form and either faxing, emailing or posting to Head Office. The registration form will be available here when non member registration opens on Monday 29 September.

Cancellation
A refund will be made for written cancellations received before Friday, 7 November, 12:00 UK time, subject to an administration fee of €50. No refunds will be made after this date and FULL payment by the registrant will be due. Full payment is due by Friday, 14 November 2008. EMWA reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone who has not paid in full by the due date.

By Car
Take the M4 following signs for Central London. Join the A4 at Hogarth roundabout and continue to follow signs for Central London. Once past Earls Court, take a right and turn into Knaresborough Gardens. Follow the road around to the left where it bends, the hotel is 100 meters on the left.

Please note, the Mayor of London has approved plans to extend the central London Congestion Charging zone westward. The extended zone now includes the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum. Congestion Operating Hours are 7:00AM - 6:30PM Monday to Friday, excluding Public Holidays. New Traffic signs will make clear exactly where the charging zone is. Please visit http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/congestioncharging/ to pay the congestion charge or for more information on the charge zones.

Parking
The hotel has 76 parking spaces. Secure parking is available to residents and non-residents based on 'first come first served' basis. Parking includes 24-hour security and state-of-art surveillance. The 24-hour parking rate is £27.

Oyster card
An Oyster card stores credit and can be used on buses, the London Underground, trams, the docklands light railway (DLR), London Overground and some National Rail services in London.

The pay as you go card has several advantages over paper tickets:

• Oyster single fares are generally cheaper
• Credit can be used as you need it and doesn't expire
• Daily price capping automatically calculates the cheapest fare for all the journeys you make in a single day

You can get an Oyster card online, at most underground and overground stations and at London Travel Information Centres.

A special rate of £180 per room, per night for a standard bedroom with single occupancy has been negotiated at the conference hotel for Thursday 20th and Friday 21st November.  This rate includes an English breakfast and taxes at 17.5%.  Double occupancy bedrooms are available for an additional charge of £10 per room, per night.
