30th EMWA Conference
11 – 15 May 2010
Hotel Tiara Park Atlantic, Lisbon, Portugal
‘Medical Writing in an Electronic Era'
|
| Message from the EMWA President & the Education Officer |
|
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We are delighted to invite you to attend the 30th EMWA conference to be held between 11th and 15th May 2010 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The theme of this conference is ‘Medical writing in an electronic era’ and we have some very interesting plenary lectures, seminars, and discussion panels on topics related to this theme. In particular we have sessions on e-learning, Web 2.0, knowledge management, online biomedical journals, CDISC, and many more. We would like to thank the members of the conference organising committee for helping to put together such an excellent line up of speakers.
The EMWA Professional Development Programme (EPDP) has been expanding rapidly over the past three years, doubling in size and now comprising almost 100 workshops, of which about half are included in this conference, many for the first time. Each parallel session features workshops from four or all five EPDP options: Drug Development, Language and Writing, Medical Communications, Medical Science and Professional Techniques. All sessions include workshops at foundation and at advanced level, with more advanced workshops available than ever before.
These developments in the EPDP have been guided by the surveys now routinely carried out by EMWA and we are sure that the EPDP programme has much to offer to old and new members alike, both for obtaining credits towards an EMWA certificate and for providing exceptional opportunities for learning and sharing of experience and ideas. The EPDP would not be possible without the time and dedication of our voluntary workshop leaders supported by the EMWA Professional Development Committee.
A few months ago EMWA sent out a call for abstracts for brief oral presentations and these will be presented during a half-day session during the conference. In addition, for the first time at an EMWA conference, we are inviting participants to send abstracts for poster presentations. These posters will be on display throughout the conference and are your opportunity to present your work, or any other aspect of medical writing that you’re interested in. The deadline for receipt of poster abstracts is 1st March 2009.
An EMWA conference is also a fantastic place to network with colleagues and make new contacts. The social events are excellent networking opportunities including the welcome drinks reception and the conference banquet to be held in Adega Kais, a 100-year-old cellar serving traditional Portuguese food. Lisbon is a wonderful destination for our 30th conference and many of the social events include tours of this fascinating city (by tram, coach, or on foot).
We very excited about this conference and we are really looking forward to seeing you there!
